TENSPORTSZONE – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will face a parliamentary inquiry into lies about the Downing Street party during the COVID-19 lockdown. The Labor motion was passed last Thursday and was passed without a vote after receiving no objections.
The Prime Minister chose not to apply for an amendment to his postponement. A decision by lawmakers on the Privilege Committee will investigate whether Johnson insulted Parliament by misleading the House of Commons with his repeated denials of partying at the official 10 Downing Street residence, despite the UK’s lockdown.
The investigation will only begin once Scotland Yard has completed its own investigation into alleged breaches of coronavirus laws at the heart of the UK Government.
Speaking before the results were confirmed Cabinet Office Minister Michael Ellis told parliament the Prime Minister was always happy to face any question Parliament deems appropriate.
Labor deputy leader Angela Rayner said “MPs should carry out a parliamentary inquiry because the Prime Minister has failed to do his job properly”. He also advised Johnson to resign.
Johnson, who skipped the debate over the motion and decision due to an official visit to India, has been fined by the Metropolitan Police for attending his own birthday celebrations in June 2020. Police officials are also preparing for notification of the imminent sentencing.
Conservative lawmakers used the afternoon debate about the PM’s honesty to express their discontent with the handling of his allegations. His statement was responded to by other MPs more with calls for Johnson to resign.
Johnson allegedly violated 6 of the 12 possible rules considered by Operation Hillman officers.
